Orthodontics for Children
Dr. Clinebell, Dr. Anderson, and The American Association of Orthodontists recommend that every child receives his or her first orthodontic screening by age 7.
By screening children at an early age, we can recognize potential problems and correct them before they become more serious. This will save you and your child time and money by preventing future problems before they ever even begin.
During your child’s first complimentary consultation at our office, we will do an exam and take an x-ray to determine if there are any problems that should be addressed now. The most common problems requiring Phase 1 treatment are: early loss of baby teeth, crossbite, anterior open bite, oral habits such as thumb sucking, severe crowding, underbite, severe protrusion of the upper teeth, and treatment for psychosocial benefits.
Dr. Clinebell or Dr. Anderson may recommend an orthodontic appliance and/or braces during Phase 1 treatment to prevent a problem from occurring, correct a current problem, or help direct jawbone growth that cannot be done at a later age.

Orthodontics for Teens
Typically, adolescent orthodontic treatment involves placing braces and any necessary appliances on the patient once his or her permanent teeth have erupted. The braces straighten the permanent teeth and finish correctly aligning the patient’s jaw.
By age 12-13, most, if not all, permanent teeth have erupted and are in place. Crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites can easily be detected at this stage. These problems will hardly ever correct themselves. This stage is when most parents decide to seek orthodontic treatment for their children.
